sun comin' up to give long shadows to everything /
words callin' to me but i ain't in mood for
nothing but italian blue sky
wrapped in a long dark burgundy red dress
got the hunger but nothin' comes to my taste
they call me an american
ol' red white & blue
but i'd trade all that in a flat second
for a bit of smoke & flame
& the scent of breath tinged
by light wine & a smile right about now...
got a car but once
just once ...
if only for one minute
want to put my hands on
and my foot into
a Ferrari
yeah, just once ...
then after i'd be on my way
don't need
or want
to own the thing
just wanting the twirl
the rich we always have with us
as we do the poor
and they both got their problems
and any man got all he can do
just gettin' up in the morning
with the idea of
keeping himself clean
