there I stood, when that truth washed over me,
emotions entangled within the cooling mist...
a view from an old bridge, (how ironic), to see
the waters roaring below, as the canyon resists
not far beneath me, on an open rock plateau,
laughter and smiles, an occasional glancing...
imaginary thoughts can almost feel the undertow,
and smell freedom in the air... as if it's dancing
I visit these falls often, to excape my little prison,
desolving a thousand years in the blink of an eye...
the future or past, it makes no matter to the vision,
as time becomes nothing more than a quiet passerby
and so it hit me... how that I can stand inches away,
from this figure of pure nature, sensing in it the tease...
being here, and wanting to be there, wanting to stay,
blending among the water and the rocks and trees
and I stand outside of this, looking hard, staring long,
bathing in the eddies, drying on the rocks, in the sun...
brother and sister sharing stories in a summer song,
and children, splashing water... both the old and young
this place has its memory, hypnotic, for a while or so,
imagination floats upon the water, unavoidably free...
carried swiftly down stream, far from the world I know,
far from that old bridge, and a life, under lock and key
the days were long, and seasons passed by politely then,
when family was... family, and outnumbered the stars...
with names given in love, without some ego to defend,
and freedoms expressed, without the bearing of scars
been walking away from the falls for eighteen years now,
sadly, saying goodbye to this fantasy time after time...
but it has cast a lasting memory, that place, some how,
all too real to keep hidden, within the confines of a mind

today I walked away again...
Re: today I walked away again...
Revisiting can be both rewarding and a painful reminder of time lost. This poem certainly brings this aspect to the fore and does it well.

thanks big dad... time lost for humanity's sake maybe, in not standing
within nature's program. was I born too late... or too soon, or am I
bound to this place in time forever... it doesn't matter, but if I think it,
then I have already done it... "been there-done that" sums it up
