the driver

i opened the back door
and asked the driver to open the trunk
he was chewing on a hamburger
which created the aromatic pleasures
of mayonaise and chocolate

though it was hard to imagine
such a delicacy to be admired
by the sort of clients who foretold
the future in the pleasure of one's diet

the trunk opened automatically
to throw my things within
and closing it seemed impossible
with each bang and banging

the driver intervened to show me
the refined gesture of leverage
and kicking the sack further into
the back of the trunk

closing it we caught each other's eyes
i thought him to be somewhat of an angelic
charlatan or proxy of genius and other
acclamations such as the mysteries
of the mayan culture and
eating their slaves
while telling of the end of civilzation
as the beginning of all ironies
proclaimed

centuries before there existed
literary devices

the ride itself to the airport
was strife with the riddles of
jazz fusion and wordless phrasings
of an out of tune guitar

upon inquiry
it was argued as intentional
and therefore ...

a taste to be admired
