when I read Claude Pelieu in City Lights basement

Post by revolutionR » October 6th, 2016, 6:44 pm

when I lived in North Beach
for a few months in the early 70's
I would hang out in the City Lights
books basement, and read for hours
there was a lot of local poets writings
to read, and I remember Claude Pelieu's
publications, his words were endless
pages of words that just went on and on
with total randomness, I don't know
if he wrote in English, or if it was
translated from French, but his writings
were so random that I was just drawn in
to follow his word travels into strange
areas of ink land, somewhere between
dada, surrealist, and beat, and street
and if it was written in English it still
felt like I was reading French, his thoughts
were French, it had a feeling of being some
bohemian walking down a Paris alleyway
and just saying what ever comes into mind
as you experience the world around you
the words just spoke themselves, like if
a French cigarette was talking about its
short life as it's ash burned down, the words
were like ash falling from the cigarette
while it compared themselves to the leaves
falling from the trees what were huge balls
of words that went around in a circle, as the
poet wrote it all down as fast as he can, and the
windows above reflect pages of blue ash writing
