child on the tracks

as a child I lived in a tracked home
there was a railroad track behind my house
behind the railroad track was a small farm
I use to play on the track and sometimes a
train would go by, freight cars, I would
place pennies on the track, to see them
flattened, then I would stand on the rail
and look down the track and see that
go down the horizon to the perspective point

I wonder what went through my child mind
looking into infinity, my parents took me to
church but I don't remember thinking about God
which is strange considering that that is who
was suppose to be the reason for going to church
but a child has a wide open imagination

I was not force feed Bible stories, but I have vague
memories of some of those stories, about Jesus
which is very disturbing to me, because I did not
get the good news, I just see weird scenes
so I would look down the railroad tracks
and let my mind wander, and it would float
into the trees along the steel rails, and feel
the light coming through the leaves

I did not dwell on those weird scenes
that my child mind could not except, I felt myself
resisting those vague stories, but at the same time
there were those television shows that were affecting
my sense of self,all those war movies and cowboy
trying to vie with those other weird scenes

but I saw a Disney move with the Nutcracker suite
and now my child mind was dancing with Tchaikovsky
and I feel free as a bird and I'm standing on the metal arms
of the railroad into forever, and a light comes and all
the war movies and weird scenes of angels and devils

are removed and I'm just a child playing on the tracks
again and now the train is coming with its freight cars
and I play until the stars come out, and I hear my mother
calling for me, so I climb back over the wooden fence
and go back into the tracked home, into the life
I was born into
