on the nature of the poem

Post by revolutionR » December 31st, 2016, 11:34 pm

so, I do not write as a poet
to say something about something
more like I would create a void

where something can happen
in other words, everything else
besides the poem, says things about things

rather I would leave that to those who
would tell us things about things
they may or may know anything about
there are so many who pretend to tell us
what it is that we don't know

so, a poem is not merely a device
to use to say something, like a soap box
or an axe to grind, no matter how much
it appears that way, no, rather it is a
kind of vehicle that is custom made
but it is only for getting from here to there
but where is here and where is there
you just know you are moving from square one
like a moving image of eternity

it is made for looks and speed
but what it looks like we cannot know yet
it's like when you look at a mountain
you don't need to ask what the mountain
is trying to say, or what a mountain looks like
a poem is not trying to say anything
like a flower growing out of shit
it's just trying to be a poem
like a rock out in the middle of nowhere
it just makes a shadow

there is nothing to say about that, it just is
