"Niggas Can Still Be Bought"

Post by izeveryboyin » April 29th, 2005, 2:13 pm

This was the title of an article I've just been recommended to read on the internet by a fellow student here at college. It talks about Armstrong Williams, "a prominent conservative commentator who was a protégé of Senator Strom Thurmond and Justice Clarence Thomas of the Supreme Court, acknowledged yesterday that he was paid $240,000 by the Department of Education to promote its initiatives on his syndicated television program and to other African-Americans in the news media. "

And in spite of that, I find myself pulling a disgusted face and retorting "Niggas can still be bought? Niggas can still be bought?"

Politicians can still be bought

"Spics" can still be bought

"Yids" can still be bought

"Chinks" can still be bought.

I can still be bought.

I was really angered at the fact that people still get hung up about these things. If they were really that pissed about it, they should've taken more affirmative action (no pun intended) and done something substantial about it. Organized a protest, bombed his home... mailed him anthrax. Etc. I'm so bored with semi-poli rants from asshole pricks who wouldn't know good governing if it bit him in the ass. Not that I'm advocating the bribery of Williams... not in the least, but honestly, if it weren't for such poor response from African American citizens regarding serious political issues like education, if we would make our hand in ALL matter known, and have a REAL voice in it all, then this really and truly wouldn't bother us so much. And we subsequently would not be reduced to muttering "Niggas can still be bought" while smoking a cigarette and sniveling at passersby. What do you think folks? Am I taking this too lightly here? Should I be more outraged and start putting on my vaseline and gearing up my old "Yo mama" jokes?

We all can still be bought, apparently. Our culture is pervaded by materialistic fixation, from bling videos, to bribe-taking politicians who thump their Bibles for maximum kickback, to Lexus-driving Wall Street players or crooked corporate accounting firms who wouldn't know the slightest measure of ethics if it bit them squarely in the ass.

Even the late John Paul was wise to it.... (he got this one right, at least).

And yes.... I think some outrage is called for..... on a

lot of what our government and their associates are up to these days....... We need more of it, if you ask me.

how can one not be outraged.
I'm outraged all the time.
A tiresome hoodwink it's been,
and we're still lappin it up
like dawgs.

Why, if I had the money, I'd buy up everybody, every fucking last one of you, no matter who you think you are, and you'd have to live on my farm and do what you wanted,
as long as,
of course,
nobody hit, and
everybody had food, shelter, etc.......

Damn, I hate being broke....

Hi JK,

First off I'd like to say a little side note....Isn't it amazing how long Strom Thurmond held office considering his political views? I mean here is a guy who went against liberty, democracy, equality, and the pursuit of happiness for a large percentage his country's population - the very values his country was supposedly formed from. I think he held public office for almost eighty years and was still in the senate at the age of 100. Those both are records I believe. I believe he also made a pres. election bid based on segregation in the late 40's. In a country that shouts liberty and freedom for all, the longest serving public official was an open segregatist and bigot. Call me crazy, but isn't all of that crazy :? Anyways, just found that interesting...now on to your post.

"Clarence Thomas of the Supreme Court, acknowledged yesterday that he was paid $240,000 by the Department of Education to promote its initiatives on his syndicated television program and to other African-Americans in the news media."

Shit, Micheal Jordan used to get $50 million to promote Nike...a company based in sweat shop labor and other questionable business practises and no one said he was bought...lol...guess there is a fine line between being bought and getting paid.

It's funny how the colour of his skin even comes into question...like saying the moral fiber of a person should somehow be influenced by the colour of their skin. If he was white no one would be saying....shit, just another damn crack'a being bought....

" if it weren't for such poor response from African American citizens regarding serious political issues like education, if we would make our hand in ALL matter known, and have a REAL voice in it all, then this really and truly wouldn't bother us so much."

Well I think that statement is true across the board regardless of racial background. Interests in politics is probably at an all time low in North America...I mean who has time for such petty things when there are so many great sitcoms on like the O.C. or Fear Factor...lol

"What do you think folks? Am I taking this too lightly here?"

Ehhh I dunno...I mean since post emancipation there has been quite a few civil rights movements and pushes for equality in the States...sometimes I think its getting close and other times you read an article entitled "Niggas Can Still be Bought"...but hey, if that's true then call me African and give me the $240 000...hell you can call me anything for $240 000...lol

Personally its sad this is all still an issue...if caucasions are doing anything with roots in african american culture - they are trying to be black....if african americans are doing anything from caucasion roots - they are selling out. Yellow Fever, Jungle Fever, Uncle Toms...and so on. In a world where any part of the planet can be reached in less than a day, why does this still exist? It's tiring how much energy is spent on this by the world.

Anyways, interesting post JK, take care,

Trev

ah.. to be be called JK again. I thought I'd lost that name. LOL. But I agree... with all of you. I agree that it's an outrage, I agree that ot's unwholesomely wrong, but I also believe that there is nothing you can do about it. And as trev so comedically demonstrated here... as long as there's money, people will ALWAYS be bought. Over the weekend I can to the conclusion that no, I wasn't taking it too lightly. Becfause there are things one can do to openly stand up against such deeds besides writing and article and bitching about it! Like I said... lobby, protest, expose, expose, expose... or please, for the love of Pete, shut the fuck up about... please (I'll pay you).
