Well, LR, I do remember that a few years ago, the guys who did the Golden Turkey Awards compiled a list of the world's 50 worst record albums. It turned out that 48 of them were by Jim Nabors.

Bravo! Yay!
Hah!
I loved that!
You took the cheese right out and put in some healthy juice instead! Twas an afternoon delight to listen to!

I'm doing radio show again, every other tuesday and i'd love to play this on the air! Be perfect on my show, which is easy listening and Jazz.....I play Dionne Warwick and Charlie Parker in the same set....! heh.

I think the cheesiest song ever written is "for the good times". I hate that song so much, once when someone requested I sing it at a gig, I told the guy i'd do it for 500 dollars cash. Fucker paid it!
Story of my life.......

Another is "honey". Ugh.

Another is Wives and lovers. I think that's the name...it starts out..."hey, comb yere hair, get outta bed, put on your make-up, etc....

Great idea, cheesy songs, rechurned.....

Z, I guess I'm just going to have to compile you a CD and mail it to you.

hest, thanks for the listen. Can you play mp3s on the air? The next one on the agenda is probably Raindrops Keep Fallin' on My Head. Bacharach will probably be well represented. Road to San Jose?

r&s, yes, that's helpful. Are you saying that anything since Debussy is fair game for Cheesiest Tune?

Yes, this is true rempy, in a very broad and sweeping gusto sense I can agree with you, but also, it's true that there is good music post Debussy, it's just not played much where many hear it. I know this because I seek out good music with the same fervor that health nuts seek out vitamins. From what I've heard of Doreen and LRod's musical endeavors, they seem to seek music out in a similar way that I do.

I would venture to say to you that musical "preferences" are not really valid when what is heard and available easily is very limited/limiting.
It's more about how musically inclined people are. I'm pretty much musically inclined 100 percent, so i'm very interested and choosey about what I listen to because music speaks to all my senses, I seek it out, look for it, want it. I don't see that it speaks to a majority of people as strongly as it does for me, and maybe you too, and others,...I dunno.
But you get my drift here?

(On an unrelated note, I've been wanting to tell you that I just adore your avatar.)

Ya I guess I was. But I retracted given the proliferation of musicos hereabouts. Not to get serious or anything but I am opposed to kitsch in general--and making fun of kitch or pop is nearly as bad as the sheeit itself.

THe way entertainment is today, a Coltrane would be out on the street playin' his etudes; a Bartok hustling work at some bonehead community college. Im not a musician ( I do butcher a piano with a bad Bach 2-part invention or Satie or T. Monk occasionally), but I think its dreadful what happened to real music--its shame when abotu the only thing you hear on the radio which is nearly listenable is like an old Steely Dan tune--and most of thats pretty schmaltzy.

Same with writing. Morons now rule writing and Hollywood; William Gibson is reduced to bloggin; Pynchon to being on the Simpsons. Or the movies are made form dead writers scripts by like PK Dick.

hest, the tune that falls into that category for me is FreeBird. There's always some drunk in the audience that wants to hear it. I'll have to add it to the list. Thanks for reminding me.

I used to tell my audiences that if they didn't like my poetry, i would change it for them....25 bucks per word and they could rewrite it any way they wanted.

Yes Yes, this I agree with, the not so goods rule, the genius is out begging on the streets.
Me for example! :D

This is true on all sorts of fronts here in the USA.
Not so goods are always afraid of genius, (dummies!), thus, the "drug smokin and dealin" coltrane and parker get snubbed, while Steve and Edie and or Judy rule. Go figure.

Oh well, I don't care about that shit anymore.
I know who I am, and how good I am.
That's all I need.
The rest is gravy.
I like gravy, don't get me wrong. But not at too high a price.

And what about actors?? It's the same. Some dimwit like, I don't know, Brad Pitt or Damon is thought to be a Master Thespian while real actors--I can't think of any--even Alec Baldwin are nowhere to be seen. The American consumer-grunt doesnt want eloquence or wit any more than he wants some poly-chromatic etude in 7/8: he wants some nearly dyslexic like pretty boy--Cruise, Pitt-- or a Stallone like wise guy or Hercules-like thug and some hip hop or grunge noise to accompany his porn-O par-tay wit da Bioach du jour.........

I think we should do the Sonny & Cher song "It Ain't Me, Babe" ---- no no no...

I refuse to do some cheesy songs, though, like "Where Have All the Flowers Gone" or "Tie a Yellow Ribbon on the Old Oak Tree" or "Bye Bye Miss American Pie" or "Someone Left the Cake Out in the Rain" or or or or..."Sugar, Honey Honey"..... damn.. these are countless

........

hey hest.... thanks for listening... I tried to talk him out of it but instead, he forced me to talk my way through it... heh... it was fun!

Oh come on "Tie a Yellow Ribbon.." could be retroffited--updated--

Tie those Yellow Ribbons to my Quivering Upper Thighs
Tie a Leather Collar round her nice subbie neck
Tie her to a Bedstead with your Kmart Clipon tie
TIe him down on rubber with that old twisted pair
Tie her on the carpet with a doggy leash from Sears...

no?

r&s

as I was sitting here in meditation on the deeply mystical subject of cheesy tunes. I thought, My Favorite Things is a good example of where my thrust is in this project. To make Born Again Cheesy Tunes, the way that Trane made an ultimately cheesy tune like MFT into an amazing work of impressionistic art.

I think I'm going to jump out there and do a version of that. I hear Trane saying, 'walk this way.'
