Lovely stuff Hester,

Got to give kudos for how the officials word it...to generate tax dollars...I wish they'd just be candid for one minute and say, "Listen, we're taking your homes because this is prime land your sitting on and if we take if as a government necessity, we only have to give you the minimum market value rather than letting you profit from the land you own. Sure we could try and buy you out, but that's just so darn messy and costly or we could always wait for you to die and have your kids sell it to us, but darn it, that may take awhile. Its a much simpler way for us to operate, we see, we want, we get...very simplistic and the quicker you give in, the quicker we can bulldoze your shit down and the quicker I get my new convertible audi." ...that would be so refreshing to hear them say that...sodium pentathol (sp?) anyone?

"In New London, city officials envision replacing a stagnant enclave with commercial development that would attract tourists to the Thames riverfront, complementing an adjoining Pfizer Corp. research center and a proposed Coast Guard museum."

Ahhhh here's a bandit now, Pfizer Corp....big blue erection pills...didn't they also produce some fucked up drug or chemical for the gov't at one time as well? Coast Guard Museum...holy shit, now I can't say I blame them because you can justify tearing down a whole city for a coast guard museum....open the coffers men, boat loads of tax dollars will start flooding in. But then again, all that tax money will be spent on extra policing to monitor the clammoring crowds rushing to get in to the museum. Personally, I think Beverly Hills is prime farm land, perhaps we should kick Tom Cruise out of his house and put up a tobacco cash crop.

"The New London neighborhood that will be swept away includes Victorian-era houses and small businesses that in some instances have been owned by several generations of families. "

The wonderful thing is, small businesses make up about 70 percent of all businesses and employ the most people. So yeah, makes perfect sense to close down 10 stores that employ 10 people to open up one business that employs fifty....not to mention its always a hoot and hollar to lose your full time work status, all your benefits, and switch to a part time position, with no benefits, that requires you to work more hours than you did when you had a full time job. Now this is slightly off topic, but you got my mind a whirling...one of my biggest pet peeves about modern day jobs is this utter nonsense of the scammy "Part-time/full-time" position. Its a growing problem and soon the majority of blue collar workers will be subjected to this. I went to a job interview once at some shitty factory and that's what they were offering...I asked how many hours a week is it? They told me it was 44 hrs a week. I asked them how that's considered part time....there response, "It just is."...speaking of interviews, I worked for this one prick of a boss at a carpet factory once, the day of my interview, I asked him, "Any benefits?" ... "Yeah, you get a job." and he had this smug little smirk on his face like he just said the most clever thing anyone had ever thought of. Eventually they had to close down part of the factory and I was laid off, given my notice....so I asked for my severance pay of two weeks on top of my regular pay....so then he says, I'm not paying that...and by law I am entitled to it, so I explained that even on a lay off, without proper notice, I am entitled to two weeks severance pay if I've worked there at least six months...so the fucker says, "Okay, you're not laid off yet, but you will be in two weeks." Needless to say I bitterly left that day....but I should have stayed, ate chili and broccoli for lunch everyday, found a nice roll of expensive carpet and laid brown bombs in different rolls daily until I left...lol...but yeah, i'm a little off topic here...lol

Anyways, thanks for bringing this to light...sure sounds like you guys are getting the short splintery end of a big brutish stick....hopefully things will change shortly and without any riots or violence etc.
