I caught a bit on TV (PBS) about the people living in the mountains of Pakistan. Earth quake survivors, I can't shake the image of those children standing barefoot in the snow shivering.
Fucking yahoos, got dam yahoos. I picked up a book about 34 years ago. It was being used in the honors program of the psyche department in College Park Half the book was aboult Swift and his excremental vision. and Filthy Lucre. The book was called Life Against Death. Of course Pakistan has spent billions on weapons and by god they got their own nukes.
I got a buddy who is big on conspiracy theories. He believes it is a deliberate plan to bankrupt the United States so they can establish their new world order here.
The other half of the book is about Freud and the death instinct in man. Our yearning for disolution, for entropy, to return to an inanimate state.
Still reading that book, I have no idea if I have read it from cover to cover. I just keep picking it up now and then.
Sorry, you didn't ask to hear all this.
mnaz, I wonder if depression is the right word for what I feel? More like self loathing and despair. I listen to these talking heads on TV, especially this guy David Brooks from the NY TImes. He sounds so reasonable, he puts a positive spin on Bush. He kind of giggled the other night when he said there is no money for those social programs. No shit Sherlock. I have heard an estimate of the war in Iraq as half a trillion dollars or maybe more.
I stoped at a truck stop last night to get some gas. None of the card readers at the pump were working. The cashier said that a building in Pakistan was bombed yesterday and every card reader in the US was shut down. I did not believe him but it made we think about the global village.
