May cool

Post by joel » May 11th, 2006, 10:51 am

May cool— and dark
broad leaves mark the
Park Street Kansas
gardens— as just
as if Lust had
mustered some corps
to adore its
more-than-grand birth.

May cool morning—
and bunting eyes
sing soundlessly,
too busy to
be bothered by
wind chill, by breeze,
by other needs.

May cool and full—
abnormally
gullible— and
more-than-grand: such
ran down my face
like oil placed to
grace a psalmist
beard; I missed it

when May cool warmed
by noon, swarmed by
charmed sunshine bright—
I delighted
rightly in its glow—
time to grow up,
though not away.
