Almodovar´s Volver

Post by Arcadia » September 10th, 2006, 5:59 pm

Almodovar and Allen are the two directors that I use to follow in each new film. With the difference that I like each time less the last Allen´s films (well, except from Sombras y niebla, La maldicion del Escorpion de Jade and the one with Sean Penn playing the guitar??) and I still like Almodovar´s films. He has the rare art of make you want to cry and laugh at the same time.
Great actrices including an españolisima and italianisima Penolope Cruz this time.

No me gustan mucho.

i liked the film very much, though Almodovar purists told me that it was not "representative" of his usual style.

Loved the photography and the direction - the story line was predictable but the characters made it vividly live.

judih: it's probable!. At least comparing with the last two ones that e/dog mentioned. This one sounded more like an italian film in Bernarda Alba's estrident/delicate parody mood. And yes, the story line was predictable and that always made me wonder why I liked a film anyway.

e/dog: I'm not a cinema critic, what I said wants to be more subjective than objective. I like the irreverence towards death is his films.
What's the last Allen's film?

I don't think 'Therefore, I am.' Therefore, I am.

on television, there was an interesting documentary on Woody Allen, featuring extensive interviews, from 2002.

also an interview from 1971 on the dick cavit show. both were highly entertaining and lends some insight, presented through humour, into the artists' soul, or lack thereof.

more about this another time when i can reflect and process. time for bed.
I don't think 'Therefore, I am.' Therefore, I am.
