He only smiled; in that he said enough.
Now cadent, now chaotic—poetry
of wide-eyed ballyhoo perfumed the back
beat background sweet perfected love enjoyed
between a lover and his friend. The freaks
of sideshows supernatural applaud
love’s context: faith superlative and free
to boldly pass conventionality
romantic, truer love to grasp. “The fraud
most perilous to life is that which speaks
of life—of love and faith—as rules employed
by rules alone,”
cried ballyhoo. “Attack
fear; revolution is not heresy,
but love transcends the safe and loves the rough.”
