Ah.....Denver is so sweet
Ah.....Denver is so sweet
What a gorgeous place. The ride in was a visual orgasm. The bus rode along the Colorado river and passed through many different valleys, it was so damn peaceful. The first night here was a blast. We went to a pub close to the hostel and the bartender happened to be from the same town I am from in Jersey......this led to free drinks and a sweet local connection for tasty buds. After the pub we headed to the bowling alley where I noticed the guy at the counter was reading 'Hells Angels' by Dr. Thompson, this also led to a lengthy conversation of the beats and all the writings and lifestyles. After standing at the counter for almost an hour talking to James, he told me that all my bowling games were on the house and all I had to pay for was my beer.....How fucking sweet is that? After 6 games and many beers we headed back to the hostel. Wendy was tired and so she retired to her room. I went downstairs to the TV room wherew I met some dude who (after some intense political debate) offered me a few rails of coke (again, all for free) and so we both stayed up till sunrise talking at great length about every topic possible. The sunrise was so fucking intense. I swear it looked like the eastern sky was on fire. Yesterday we decided to walk around and look for jobs. Today we are doing the same thing with a little stop over in this here huge library. Work should not be hard to find. I'll be in touch. Thanks for listening.

Denver's a very cool city! Glad you're continuing your travel adventures. Hope to read more Denver stories soon.
Did ya land a job you want yet?

Yes, Dave I did the Neal bus tour. Very cool. Can you believe I even spent the night in jail already? (disturbing the peace) I start work tomorrow as a waiter in a really cool downtown diner that employs very cute woman. It's getting really fucking cold up here, but the air is so damn clean I just love it. Did anyone else listen to John Kerry the other day? Boy did he rip the republicans a new asshole or what?

.....
So I was in court the other day to face the "judge" and hear what ridiculous fine I was to receive for "disturbing the peace" and I couldn't believe some of the sentences that were being imposed. One dude was caught with under an ounce of pot and was fined only $50, another guy was fined $250 and given 5 days in jail for drunk fuckin driving. Can you believe that shit? Didn't mention one damn word about loss of license. My turn came and I was hit with time served (about 48 hours) I couldn't believe I wasn't fined. Even more amazing is that no state seems to know what goes on in other states. I thought for sure that all the warrants I have out on me for un paid fines across America was surely gonna catch up with me this time. I mean, seriously, don't they check that shit? Or maybe no one is concerned with disorderly conduct and assualt crimes.
Assualt. That one makes me laugh everytime I recollect that fight. I was totally defending myself that night, it's not my fault that poor bastard got his ass kicked. He started something he just couldn't finish and I went to jail, not him. You can bet your ass I will never pay that court. I'd rather do time. Something about paying those ridiculous fines just don't sit right with me. Oregon wants $300 from my pocket because I Jay walked, can you honestly say that you would pay those motherfuckers $300 to cross the street? I like the legal system here. It's very modest. NJ wants almost $4000 from me because of DUI and here this dude gets off with a little tap on the fanny. Even the prostitutes got off with weak fines. And how does that charge stick? An undercover cop picks up a woman and offers her money for a blow job and then arrests her when she says OK. What the hell is that? She wouldnt be blowing if he wasn't asking. Anyway...I'm rambling. I think I'll be here in Denver for a while. This place fits like a glove. Waiting tables is alot of fun. The diner is right across from the courthouse so I get to serve lawyers, judges, sherriffs, and all those other law upholding masters of the universe. It's a real kick to change my personality with each new face. You'd be amazed at what you can make up about yourself and your life, and be even more amazed that people will believe it. It's a real kick I tell you. Anyway.......I'm rambling again. Thanks for listening.......

They fine you and you serve them. Oh the irony of it all!!!! I thought I saw in the news one time that the city of Denver was voting on making marijuana legal to have out there. I guess not then???? What's the name of the diner you work at????

Denver? You're HERE?
Sooo ... I admit I've been gone for a while, but what are you doing in DENVER and getting in trouble with the police, no less?
I don't know what part of "Denver" proper you consider a visual orgasm. It is not the ugliest city I have ever seen, nor is it the most beautiful. To be overwhelmed by visual orgasms, you need to get on the outskirts -- which is where you were at when you wrote that.
I wish I was closer to the outskirts, but I am still stuck in Littleton. Littleton was a neat place in my great grandmother's time, but now it is one of the many orifices of DENNNVVVER. I can see downtown from my backyard.
OH, to be in the plains, again! Or better yet, the mountains (in my dreams!).
What kind of job are you looking for? You need to be drug-free for most of the real jobs around here, but I can turn you on to some of the good employers in the area.
In general, I like it here. It is better than Southern California. The people are actually NICE, as opposed to hostile and combative. In spite of being near the city, the population density relates to where I was on the comparative OUTSKIRTS of an urban area, very favorably. The economy is good, relative to the rest of the United States. There ARE jobs, you just have to know where to look. It isn't too hard.
You get the warmth and hospitality of the Bible Belt, but you don't get socked with religion, right in the gut, either. Not by most people. Christian values matter more than Christian BELIEFS here, when it comes to making friends. At least that has been my experience. Only only one total hypocrite has backed me into the corner on the beliefs platform. Everyone else has simply assumed I'm like them because my morality mirrors theirs. Little do they know I am almost an atheist, lol.
There are plenty more LIBERALS here than the polls tell you, too. That was a big surprise. Liberals are everywhere.
Getting in trouble with the police takes some doing. I haven't even gotten a speeding ticket here. They leave you alone. This is not a coast. Thank God.

No state seems to know what goes on in other states, you said.
I doubt it's completely true, but there are some blind spots between CO and CA, for instance. My drving record did not follow me and some insurances believe I am clean(I am) while others assume the worst when they cannot see the whole picture.
If you are getting a break here and your record is not following you, good! Great chance to stay out of trouble and be happy.
The cops here are not nearly as bad right now as other cities. I have my paranoid California feelers out, still, but no one has molested me yet.
You have BREAK LAWS and break them flagrantly, to call attention to yourself in this state. No tickets for driving five miles over the speed limit or forgetting your signals, or rolling stops, here. Whew!

sorry, I don't know where you can get a weekly rental.
As for 900$ that is an awful lot for one lousy room. I pay 850$ for about 900 square feet with all the usual trimmings. I think that is a lot considering it's not exactly a fancy place or appealing neighborhood.
Downtown can be tough. In this part of the country, lots of people want to live in the city, the weirdos. So, it's the high-rent district.
If you can get to the outskirts and commute in for a while, that might work, or you can always get a job in this part too. The Melting Pot is close to where I live and that is a high end restaurant with good tips and a steady clientele.
Wish I could answer your question, but I don't know of weekly rentals. Sorry.

Thanks for the reply. Its been a while since I have been able to make it to the library for computer time. Since my last post I have found a very decent place to live. Its $400 a month and comes with a hot tub, internet, and a sweet ass balcony overlooking the mountains. I got very lucky. I see that studioeight has a book coming out......sweet! Wish I had more access to the internet, woulda been nice to have hitched my wagon to that star.......
