more cameras please

Post by Kreddible Trout » November 11th, 2006, 7:19 pm

Two sexist, racist southern stereotypes walk into a movie…

So lemme get this straight (LGBT as well): you’re a drunken college idiot. You get filmed being so. You, in your drunken wisdom, sign release forms to appear in. . . . “shit man, did he say a real, like Hollywood movie??… fuckin awesome!” the result of this action might mean you end up in a film looking like a drunk, racist, sexist idiot. Hey, put down that funnel for a second and listen!

So these goons from South Carolina got duped by ‘Borat’ (Sacha Baron Cohen) and they understandably feel a little embarrassed by it. A little egg on your face is one thing, but to weaken your character even more by not even standing by your actions is just shameful. They will not accept that they’ve been called on being a spade. (pun intended)

Here’s a revolutionary thought for you: If you don’t want your reputation tarnished, don’t do things that will tarnish your reputation. Is that just too simple for the simple minded? If you don’t want to get dirty, don’t play in the dirt. If you don’t want to catch fire, don’t play in a fire. If you’ll be ashamed of your actions choose different actions.

These idiots will get what they deserve. Unless they win their court case.

A year ago when I was still in Halifax there was a big uproar about Girls Gone Wild coming to town. The uproar was that they were exploiting young women. (Really? Women being exploited? I don’t know if I buy that!) Here’s the thing though: if you’re a drunken college girl with a low enough self esteem that you’ll drop your top and wiggle your boobies for beer and a free t-shirt your dad should see the results on the internet. Along with your uncle and grandpa and professors and future bosses. The difference between being exploited and not is whether you allow yourself to be (or not). And yes, there may be many women out there proudly waving their titties because they’re not all hung up and by all means continue to do so. I’m talking about the ‘victims’ here. Those poor girls who got so drunk they couldn’t control their actions and ended up with their micro-skirts around their ankles on film. They were taken advantage of. Yes they were, but they allowed themselves to be. Thanks to peer pressure, crafty sleazebags with t-shirts, and lots and lots of alcohol. They weren’t ashamed of their boobies on Friday night… but come Monday morning… hmmm…

What are the common factors here? Youth. Lack of common sense (one of the most destructive traits of our time). And Alcohol (or other drugs). Youth is excusable as we’ve all suffered from it (I still am). Common sense… I don’t know where that got to. And Alcohol…

The argument is often ‘I was drunk, I wasn’t being myself’. No excuse, unless you’re also ready to excuse a drunk driver for killing someone. Unless you’ll excuse a drunk guy for raping someone. You ARE being yourself. No one is entering your body and taking control of you. There’s no one at your control centre maneuvering your boobs out of your shirt or your tongue to ramble off about the proper place for ‘those people’.

The real problem is accountability. No one is willing to take responsibility for their actions. They’d rather sue somebody. I was a drunk for 14 years and I did a lot of things that I’m embarrassed even almost ashamed of. But I did them. No one else. Even if my drunken goon buddies egged me on to do something that was against my better judgment, if I did it, I take full responsibility. And I learned.

Nowadays, people are being caught on tape doing these things. Good. Since people can’t get their head around accountability, maybe the fear of being exposed for being who they really are will learn them a thing or two. The more cameras the better. No sense letting Big Brother have all the fun. With our camera phones and tiny little digital doohickeys we can document the change. We can take it upon ourselves to capture the truth. We need more Borats and Michael Moores and Rick Mercers and Jaime Garzóns.

The truth. That’s what it comes down to. If you’re racist and might be embarrassed by that, maybe you should rethink your views. If you’re an easy harlot and might be ashamed about it maybe you should keep your skirt on. If you are a corrupt system that will be shut down once the people you’ve manipulated out of their civil liberties see you for what you’ve really done (let’s not get into all that) maybe you should have been a little (a lot) more honest.

You are what you are, don’t blame the cameraman.

more cameras and let's the world be a big Corte... I don't know, I don't feel comfort at all in a world where everybody needs a lawyer or wants to be one.
Here the news programmation in tv is full of denuncias via camera.
And maybe to feel comfortable or not it's only a narcissistic lujo, who knows.

That's about it in a nutshell, KT... now if you could convince King George that the blame game is not the way to go... it may rub off on our population.

Nice to see your still alive...

King George is about to start playing the repentant catharsis game with the help of daddy pretty soon from what I understand. Unfortunately the thing he'll take the blame for is not winning the war in Iraq. Not for... oh I dunno, STARTING it with absolutely no justification. For terrifying his own country into allowing itself to be stripped of something it claimed to be it's cornerstone, it's civil liberties. Iraq will be his downfall and the scapegoat for it (they do so love them don't they?) to underplay the other, more (to use his terms) EVIL things he and his boys have been up to since before they were in office.

I don't even want to get into it.

yeah, I'm still alive. giggidy-giggidy.

It pleases me to imagine that is what His Holiness George W. Bush's grave will look like in fifty years. Hisgrave at the presidential library with one book, My Pet Goat. The one he found so interesting on september 11, 2001

Nero fiddled, Bush read.

sorry for the ramble
I hope I am wrong
I hope in fifty years there will be a shinning memorial to Bush'
He was right and I am wrong.
I would much rather be wrong about him than right.

Thanks for the interesting link.
