I just can’t bring myself

Post by joel » April 1st, 2007, 8:29 pm

this is the truth, children
everybody lies
whether by a subtle puff of their resume
denying culpability for a fart
or saying that they don't masturbate or eat boogers
or when they compliment bad art
everybody lies
-Lightning Rod
Ok Lrod--so truth be told: yes, I can...but for poetic sake, I just can't bring myself.... ;) Awesome write!

I just can’t bring myself to want you and
I just can’t bring myself to touch myself
again, as if the two— alike perhaps—
but I don’t think— are equal tragedies,
incapabilities of sense and need,
of inner joy and outer joy combined.
I just can’t yank another fantasy
for happenstance, for happiness, for me—
and if I can’t for me, then how’d I find
a likely hope for you? A hope indeed—
what’s hope when optimism parodies,
like celebrating death, my love’s collapse
and all my human failures? What a wealth
of hope I’d need to meet but hope’s demand.
