Well, if that tree is really in the woods, it's obviously a trap set by faeries or something or other.

take out th green tree
it looks like a friggin frog
does not comfit with th scene
which is absolutely magnificent
or, embed th tree into th landscape, skyscape, mon
by changing th value range of th tree,
like, is it radioactive?
th scene itself is awesome
like
why would ya wanna distract from that?
it is a moonlit niteon a winter scene
magnificent evergreens
well done
th tree don't work for me
it inturruptz th whole thang

okay... i gotta say something here...gmart don't change the painting. i do respect everyone's opinion. but i think the artist has to portray the image in his or her mind no matter if it's realistic or not. it's not about that. it's about a feeling. this painting for me (the christmas tree in particular)captures the warmth of the season in the midst of all that grey and white winter. it made me smile.

and also...i'm beginning to understand that not everyone will appreciate the artist's point of view or depiction there of. after all art is in the eye (and heart) of the beholder.

oh obviously, it is a plastic medium and one can evoke any emotion or aesthetic sensibility
also this is a supportive forum which goes beyond
just warm cozy emotions
it is also a place for deep encouragement
and my direct expression was well, direct
he ain gonna change th painting
i ain gonna change my attitude
'this artist has a whole lotta potential
why would i not wanna give my best back too?

the tree can evoke warmth somehow,
but it lacks conviction in that scenario.

Thank you all for your replies.

Jimboloco, yours in particular was quite astute. The painting as you see it, is the result of my dissatisfaction with the green tree and the lights I had place upon it. I hastily reworked the tree to get rid of the colors I didnt like and left it to come back and finish at a later time.
So when you say the tree lacks conviction, you are dead on.

That being said, the tree is an important element of the painting.
It was always intended to be the focal point of the painting that shows that in the midst of the cold, gray winter, brings us the warmth and spirituality of Christmas.

As in many of my paintings, I decided to stop, because I could not visualize anything that would add to, or make the painting better than it is right now. Thanks for the stimulating critiques.

Everyone.

Garry

Hi Garry ... I'd like to create a christmas banner for Studio Eight using this painting ... if you're interested, let me know. I will properly credit you, of course! .... some of your other paintings would also make great banners! as you know, we have a lot of banners here with the artwork & photography of members. You can see the collection here

(though it's not up to date... need to add quite a few)

G mon
I have been thinking about my initial response,
can go deeper than that
and like i said the environment for that tree is alive and wintery
so the tree is something to feel compassion for
and i know that is your intent, somehow, and i do feel this sense.
in humble appreciation

i can't let this go, the painting is compelling
for 1 thing, i've never utterred a critical jam on another's artwork before
never
this th firzt tyme, mon
usually, i just respond to the artworks that i (inturrupted by phone call from RN magazine telemarketer, polite but firm nope) dig, mon

so why you th lucky one?

yeah gmon has a choice t do or not do
there is no try

same with me
the force is with you, mon
i can sense it

in a place of deep respect and trust
i believe that we can give more assertive critiques of one another
to nurture growth
so i do believe that the resilience one endures with thru th initial emotions that go with
first critical review like is it valid
and believe me
after th fyrst tyme
it's no big deal
especially if mixed with encouraging words
and that is the impetus
because th strengths that you have are beyond belief
you, mon, can scale to incredulous heightz

it's the art spirit i'm a talkin bout!
and you gotta believe in that
the sustaining drive t work art
and/or appreciate it

wayne stayte univ, mon
driving for metro cab nites
specially on wekends
design classes wow

art students league nyc
begiinner's life drawing with gregorio d' allesario
old dude, portly, with beak schnozolaan wow dark shades

he says, like, mon,
"if yoa have to err, err on th side of spirit!"
an he says,
"keep yer head in th cloudz,
and your feet on th ground,"
left brain right brain
th logical impulse
th basics of value, hue, intensity
and how they interrelate

i only apologize t th texas trucker
whose feelings i have offended
in terms of character
been there done that
this is different

paint on, mon
an i am now stimulated to draw once again
a memory scene in my haid
a night street scene from detroit
2 am
a murder
more like a killing
ritual sacrifice for dark moods
lights out at closed neighborhood police station
a line of elders standing facing th street
from back in th shadows
a superfly hat obscures th face of th man standing behind
th scene that transpired,
small boy, maybe six, laying supine and lifeless
on th cold winter sidewalk
a big fat boy poised in mid arch,
legs drawn upward,
anticipating th stomp
"he already daid" a voice said within th bus
rolling down woodward avenue towards my home
i utterred a despairing cry
"how can people be like this!?"
then there was silence on th bus
i stepped out on th cold packed snow
whyte giving off lyght walked to my basement pad
an drank wyne

how to compell a vision
with th poetic inspiration
worked with th cognitive essentials
th design variables
dominated by thnon-linear flow
but tempered with th logic of visual design
th logical impulse
th basics of value, hue, intensity
and how they interrelate
for th aesthetic quality to bless th vision
