Nuh uh, says God

Post by hester_prynne » September 14th, 2009, 10:55 pm

Everybody thinks
they are the only one.

Then there's God.

Multitudes expect
to get it all for themselves.

Nuh uh, says God.

Azillion deaf ears
tune blaringly into selfs.

Even on Sunday!

We all do wrong,
and talk it into right.

But God knows this trick.

We question God,
to avoid our own heat.

And hell burns eternal.

Yes Hes, God is beyond 'God,' no matter how much we argue about it, or how many boxes we try to throw at it, or around it. That's how I've always perceived it.

Yeah, and what gets me is all these folks trying to buy better seats in heaven by sucking up to their dogmas of choice, although it's almost humorous at times. Nuh uh, indeed!

You are a poet Hester. I could ramble for ten thousand words and not say it so well.

A R Ammons is a mighty fine poet too.

Hester, you can buy books on God, movies on Jesus, and a plaque on the pew once you die. However, God is beyond all this. Great poem.

This is a great piece. I read it forwards and backwards, like below. I think it works either way.

And hell burns eternal.

To avoid our own heat
we question God.
But God knows this trick,
and talk it into right.

We all do wrong,
even on Sunday,
tune blaringly into selfs,
azillion deaf ears.

Nuh uh, says God.

To get it all for themselves,
multitudes expect.

Then there's God.

They are the only one.
Everybody thinks.

Peace,
Barry
PS: I think it was Lewis Goldfard who taught me that a true stream of con poem can read just as well in reverse, if you dig, by reversing one of mine, that in fact it has to read either way or it's not stream of con. Beauty stream of con, Hes.:)

Enjoyed the words, Hes'... good write, and a wee bit different for you, eh? ;)

Nazz... I know your perception is right on.

Thx to you both for the fine words.

And why would anyone want to?

Peace,
Barry
PS: "G" man is a reference this guy, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/G._I._Gurdjieff not gov't man.

G Man, what a guy...
"Gurdjieff stated that maleficent events such as wars and so on could not possibly take place if people were more awake." Hey, he sounds like me!

I'm into whatever's different, judih. You know this about me, right? Because whatever's the same is just...the same. And who's into that? Not me.
G Man, what a guy...
"Gurdjieff stated that maleficent events such as wars and so on could not possibly take place if people were more awake."
True enough, Nazz, But think about it...when will all of us be "awake" at the same time? Never, as far as I can see, which is pretty far. Always there will be some of us sleeping. Always there will be some of us awake. And that's just fine how it is. If we were all always awake, well...that would just be sameness, wouldn't it? Even in a perfect, united, all-one-family world there would still be unrest and disorder, as is so in all families in all times everywhere. It's only a problem if you think it shouldn't be that way. It's only a problem if you think it's a problem.

Peace,
Barry

Tonight/tomorrow begins Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, when (most western) pew-ters in their late(!) Summer finery amble to the Synagogue to begin the ritual purging (taslich) of their past years' "sins" (wonder about Bernie whom madoff with the gelt?), only to return, again & again...(one definition of insanity is "repeating the same behavior expecting a different result!" H'H./H.e.m.

So tell me Hester did you have the Jews in mind when you wrote that poem or was it more universal in its public tone?
She is twice the man I am.

It's more universal. Judaism is hardly the first (or only) religion to feature scriptures or belief systems referring to "chosen-ness." All the major (monotheistic) religions have indulged in that kind of religious dynamic at various times.

Hello Hester,

It's been awhile since I've read you.
Here goes what I can muster,
you say
We all do wrong,
and talk it into right.
And that's something I was just amusing myself on last week,
I do do this thing you say,
especially on Sundays.

Why Sundays, I ask myself, I ask you
and I've no answer except that Sundays are the dying days
and by then I'm completely in a desperation to save myself,
I'm just a puddle, without resources left other than emotions.
I'd used any resources I'd had to survive the week.

I'm just a simple woman and daughter of Eve, I bit an apple,
on Sunday I've no realities left, just soul, soul dying and surviving it.

May bees why I begin my acceptance of the unacceptables after a week's worth of wanderings.

I should learn to eat a huge meal, then sleep the rest of the day away, as men seem to do. Men may have brilliant ideas of sleep
when resources are not handy.

I'm glad you wrote this, it reminded me of me.
