"I believe in human evolution"
What would Barbara Ehrenreich say to that?

"Natural selection, as it has operated in human history, favors not only the clever but the murderous." Barbara Ehrenreich

Don't mind me nazz. I am old and crazy.

Every time I see a pregnant woman I think there goes another optimist.

I was thinking about starting a thread called The inevitability of ______.

I rest my case.

They're always gonna be around.

The discontented, trying to mess up other people's shit.

Peace,
Barry

"They're always gonna be around.

Arguably the discontented have failed to prevent homo sapien's progress the past 200,000 years or so despite their 'trying'... altho they may have caused a pause in our progress. However if we had progressed any faster than we have, no telling how many discontented there would be.

The discontent feel disconnected.. left out... stalled on the tracks of progress, unable to cope with the reality around them. Once they feel part of society/the system, their dis-contentedness evaporates replaced by a feeling of normality, being accepted by that which they longed for before the disconnect.

It is not 'they' who will always be around, rather the emotive consequence of not feeling connected by one's connections will always be lurking in the shadows of the lonely and disenfranchised.

Not you, Doreen. The thread starter.
Cecil: Arguably the discontented have failed to prevent homo sapien's progress the past 200,000 years or so despite their 'trying'... altho they may have caused a pause in our progress. However if we had progressed any faster than we have, no telling how many discontented there would be.

While this makes a sort of sense, Cecil, it's founded in an illogical premise: that the discontented can be made content by inclusion. All too often inclusion produces short-term contentment at best, then the discontented are back to doing what they love best and feel most comfortable doing: fucking with people for the sheer joy and feeling of power it brings. (To them, that is.)

Peace,
Barry

Oh, you mean the "I believe in human evolution" quote? Yeah, don't know who said that. Maybe it's a paraphrase. Happens a lot here. Someone says one thing, then someone quotes them as saying another. Could be a case of that. Either way, it's clearly an effort on the part of the thread starter to mess with someone else's shit, considering the following quote from this Barbara person. Seems rather trollish to me.

Peace,
Barry

If one is insistent enough to be a complete and total, power-deprived asshole all their life without any regard for anyone's feelings no matter who they may be, this 'fucking with people' gives the people who offered such an idiot an alternative no choice but to put this discontented individual in a place where the sun no longer shines. In that environment, these people you seem to know could fuck with themselves to their hearts desire while leaving the vast majority at peace to do what needs to be done to be socialized hu'man beings.

Sounds to me like a justifiable reason to go to war. :) But you oversimplify. It's not only individuals as you describe to be contended with but, more seriously, groups of like-minded individuals. What to do with them, oh-wise-one?;)

I oversimplify ? So you prefer the complex and unsolvable to that of simplicity. When society is up against these folks, it's good to remind that one's intellect is far superior to solving problems rather than further complicating the issues with the nonsensical. But if one feels slighted by society, they band together with a semi-like-minded to defend their own falsehoods from Truth, cowering in the shadows of doubt and confusion as it that is the brave thing to do. It's up to knowledgeable and well-versed folks like yourself to lead these poor souls out of their darkness and into the light, Barry. Are you wise enough to live up to the full potential your were given?

Why you would infer this from my comment is beyond me.
When society is up against these folks, it's good to remind that one's intellect is far superior to solving problems rather than further complicating the issues with the nonsensical.
Due to a possible typo I'm not certain what you're trying to say here.
But if one feels slighted by society, they band together with a semi-like-minded to defend their own falsehoods from Truth, cowering in the shadows of doubt and confusion as it that is the brave thing to do.
Here, too. Did you mean to say "one" and "they" in the same sentence? It leaves this reader confused. And the "semi-like-minded" part is difficult to puzzle out as well.
It's up to knowledgeable and well-versed folks like yourself to lead these poor souls out of their darkness and into the light, Barry. Are you wise enough to live up to the full potential your were given?
This last is a gem. Aggrandizment and challenge all in one, make that two sentences. In answer, Cecil, I seek not to lead. I leave that to souls such as your's, who find satisfaction in such endeavor. As for living, it's what I do, whether up, down or in the middle. I am who I am. I do what I do. I leave the interpretation of what that means to you up to you.

Peace,
Barry
