That's another thing that bugs me. People who blow through here only occasionally tend to lump the place into some convenient preconceived ideological cubbyhole and just start blasting away based on that preconception. Even among regulars, people will not always react to every topic in predictable ways. The correct way to enter a discussion is to simply make your point. Make it emphatically if necessary. One might even express incredulity in general terms as to how said point could possibly have been missing from the talk up to that point. But do not start ripping individual people in the discussion unless you know them well and that is your usual style of communication. See, that's what's wrong with so many of these sort of internet discussions (and why I said I'll try to retire from them a week or so ago). It just seems like there's always someone at some point who insists on hurling personal insults or some type of smear in "making their point". And that is, and shall always remain.... B.S.

But then, what the hell do I know? "Ends justify means" has been a staple of American political "discourse" and policy for a long, long time... Maybe I should just shut the hell up and dive headfirst into the mud...

Shit.
Never mind.

sounds rational mnaz
but so does deb in a way

I don't know
I heard a frog plop

I suppose I could go into a long ramble about Husserl and Phenomenology or some other intelectual underpinning for the point I am trying to make.

What is telling to me about all this was WD's comment about the people reading over her shoulder and their "knowing smiles" when Deb told them what kind of people she was dealing with.

Phenomenology just a two bit version of Zen for me. But I got put off by Husserl's jargon. THe same thing I resist about Buddhism.

I don't get around much mnaz so I can't judge this place by anything else.
This is my exit zero, my on and off ramp to the net.

Me just a fat old senile frog in a little pond in Doreen's asylum for the terminally vain.

I don't know how to connect those dots between phenomenology, and zen

Husserl big on "seeing"
so is Zen

I put up a new avatar just for you Mr Mnaz.

Just struck me when you were talking about what your experience has been on the net lately.

Well it may not be a joke
But I thought it was funny when WD said
Stop baiting people by saying things that aren't true.
Stop posting at others until they have not more patience left and so the only thing left to do is blow up at you.

It's hurtful, it's disrespectful, it's distracting, it makes people angry; it's ugly, foul and abusive,. It's driving me crazy, it's driving others crazy ... so
Doreen I don't know who the other's here who I am driving crazy are but you know
I would walk away from here just because you asked me too, but lord I hope you never do

I think I have learned that we all must be careful about our "judging tones". At least that is what got me riled, Deb came into what was a mild thread in my opinion, and dramatized it all into something I had done, that was not only bad, but stupid. And then the stuff about the "poor me victim", writing me off as that, robbing me of any credibility in her mind but as that, and that judgement becoming a reason to pretty much dismiss me. It's like being run over by an out of control truck. (No, I don't mean you Still! :D )
I can understand now that Deb, that you were moved by this thread and my question. That you have strong feelings about Imus and the fact that he should never again be allowed to be listened to by anyone, therefore he should be canned. I can understand your view, and accept it, even agree with parts of it. You never gave me the chance though Deb. You didn't give anyone a chance to speak their mind. The only time you quoted people was when you felt they agreed with you, and often your judgement on that was off the mark.
I feel it's more co-dependant to just let someone ramrod their opinions down your throat than to not let them. I think all of us have just tried to speak our thoughts, while all along accepting yours, but not being accepted by you.
I think Doreen, Mnaz, Mousey, Still, etc have all been kind and very eloquent in trying to get a message to you. I wish I could get a sense from you that you get that. Your continual self-inflation is a real turn off, not to mention frustrating. No offense, but I simply think you just don't get it, while at the same time, you're telling us that we don't.
At any rate, communication is a subject we/I can never learn enough of.
I've seen some really great stellar communications here.
I haven't seen any co-dependance on this thread. I have seen some really impressive intelligence, patience, individualism and humaness on this thread.
I appreciate it/us.
And Doreen, I loved the cracker joke.
Have I told you the one I like to tell the residents where I work?
It goes like this:
What did the ham, say to the cheese?
HEY, WE'RE ON A ROLL!!!!!!!
(They laugh everytime....)

home at last from the jewel mines
said goodbye to my buddhist amigo going home to stay awhile
they stayed in north beach sanfran
visited the city lights bookstore
his wife told me she don't like thhe word "palliative"
palliation is when there ain't no cure
you're trying to sustain life with some quality
and foor him iit has been a struggle
but he fought thru a lot
and basically emerged ok for awhile

"There's been a severe deficiency in diversity and as a result there's been a lack of sensitivity in many areas," said Rich Hanley, assistant professor of journalism at Quinnipiac University." I think the media is going to be more aggressive in this area. It must."
at our last staff meeting i spoke up for the nursing aides, who are undervalued and under-paid

the boss manager lady said
"it's a supply-demand issue"
i says what?
i had to go back again and elucidate about the value of the aides and indeed to state that the patient care technicians are professions as well, and that the nurses are really helpers to the aides.
she goes again, "but in the question of recruitment and retention, it becomes a supply and demand issue."
i am looking at my mates and mutter, "well that goes across the board."
the other nurses agree with me. The boss is not a floor nurse.

Then we dropped it.

I saw a film with Peter Faulk, wings of desire, by Wim Wenders
he is doing this docudrama about Berlin, and in his spare time, in the movie, he sketches.
He is looking at a person in the subway and says,
"there's an interesting drawing problem, that guy has eyes like a raccooon."

there's a guy with an ass like a babboon.
he's gonna shoot the moon

that is the point that i need to be aware of
st has no reverence for anyone's initial intent
he will lather it with self-deprecating humor and wonderings
like
never saw his show
but sad to see him go

one time i posted a series of photos from a candlelight vigil we did
for the iraq war and dead american soldiers
a little lady was holding a photo of her son and an american flag
art guy said he was sick of the american flag
andi had sent the url link to my relatives
oops
you never know where these threads will go

add some empathy

My Brother_in-law put a really cool radio system in the bathroom here, he used a car radio, and has little speakers hanging from the walls. So I was taking a shower this afternoon listening to tunes and this one came on and for some reason I just wanted to play it here, for all of us:

I dunno, it just seemed to speak for all of us....

Whoa!

Howdy folks...Cec and I have been hard at work these last couple of weeks doing our artsy fartsy thing as tent show gypsies...and haven't had much time to tune in here. Probably a good thing.

I really didn't or don't have the energy to read through all the threads but some things did jump off the page and I would like to just throw in my fifty cents. (inflation)

Some may "think" they "know" someone because of some trivial generalities or assumptions but do they, really? I have found that those that were sooo very upset by Don Imus never even watched his show...they know or knew nothing about him until this incident.

I do know a bit about Don and I usually don't judge people by what they say...it's what they do that is really telling. Why do I like Don? Because I love music (where else could you see Emmy Lou and Mark Knoffler debut their new album other than on Don Imus), because I appreciate what he has done on his ranch for kids with cancer, because he berated the 'powers that be' about the treatment of victims of Katrina, because he raised tons of money for support groups for parents of SIDs babies, because he raised the outrage level about the disgraceful treatment of wounded vets and helped raise money to get a new facility built in San Antonio (all privately funded), and because he thinks Dick Cheney is a war criminal (so do I.) Those are just a few reasons.

Yeah...he said some outrageous things but should he be fired because he quoted a Spike Lee movie? Every talking head repeated those lines ad nauseum...until it was a joke within a joke. He realized his mistake, he went personally to apologize and the women accepted his apology. I have made plenty of mistakes in my life so I appreciate the act of forgiveness.

Now...someone here has made a few assumptions about myself and my wonderful partner in life. I don't mind being called names and some of the names I have been called are deserved but I appreciate people that really KNOW me to be the ones who do the judging.

First of all, I don't come from a small town in Texas. Our population is about 2 million in combination with our sister city in Mexico and our fair city is about 80% hispanic.

Secondly...just because I like Don Imus doesn't mean I am racist or a bigot...just because I like Mother Teresa doesn't mean I am Catholic either.

Thirdly...being white, male and over sixty doesn't tell you a thing about a person or their level of their compassion. I hope my sons live at least that long and I am sure that they will not judge someone because of their age, ethnicity or persuasion.

Enlightenment is not something you can proclaim...it is an ongoing process on a slippery slope. Those "knowing smiles" are pretty obviously just smirks...

Peace.
Freedom's just another word...
