and perhaps it's not the stealing that is the crunch, but rather getting the rice to the starving. That's always been the number one magic trick. Till i see the rice going outa the bags in the back of trucks into the waiting sacks of the needy, i have trouble believing that any effort i make here can help a starving someone elsewhere.

If an online hit can set a process in motion, great. But, who knows if it is doing what it says.

Looks like this is likely to be legit. On the freerice.com about page, it mentions that it is the "sister site" of poverty.com.

Poverty.com's about page says that it is operated by an individual named John Breen. A little googling reveals a press release that mentions John Breen as the founder of "The Hunger Site", which was an ad-sponsored "click to donate" site from 2000 or so that (again according to the press release) ended up sending 3,000 metric tons of food to the UN World Food program (the same beneficiary of freerice.com).

According to Snopes and About.com, the hunger site was real, and did actually donate a lot of food. Sounds like this guy is trying to repeat his previous success.

Till i see the rice going outa the bags in the back of trucks into the waiting sacks of the needy

I would like to see more women truck drivers myself.
I remember reading that the male drivers delivering the rice to some god forsaken country were demanding sex for food. And there was an alarming increase in the aids cases among women recieving the food.

Ignorance is bliss I suppose, and the road to hell is paved with bad intentions. I will have to google truck drivers, sex, food aid.

Here is one hit i got. One out of 1,400,000
WFP to tackle Swazi food aid-for-sex trade"Warehouses are a problem, and truck drivers. Women have been told they must have sex with managers and drivers before they will receive food for their for their families....

How much of the food is stolen once it gets there, maybe that is what you mean e-dog?

I read somewhere that the world could support a population of fifty billion people. Even now there is plenty of food to go around. That invisible hand that runs the free markets is on the arm of a capitist no doubt.

I wonder when money was invented? before Wall street but after Eden I suppose. Did the cavemen have pockets in their clothing to carry their spare change I wonder?

Yes we are made in god's image and god wears Prada & Gucci I suppose.

God wears Prada and Gucci
now that's a poem title

thanks, i guess, from my ignorant self about demands for sex to get food. Sounds so much like something human beings would do.

all too human

what humans would do?
Our generation has come to know man as he really is: the being that has invented the gas chambers of Auschwitz, and also the being who entered those gas chambers upright, the Lord's Prayer or the Shema Yisrael on his lips.

Viktor E. Frankl, "Psychotherapy and Existentialism."
Yes the women got the food to feed their children and many of them also get HIV from those same truck drivers.
I remember reading that some charities have been using women truck drivers to deliver the food. 56 percent of the male drivers had aids.

I suppose I should google all that
just bits and pieces from my fragmented mind.

I don't know much about human nature
This is my first trip through this world as a human
maybe next time I will be smarter.

somebody please delete this if I have strayed too far from the topic
I don't know anymore

Just something to do e-dog
I feel so powerless
Just one of those feel good things for me
I try to do it every day for a thousand grains
I wonder how many grains in one rice cake?
Also it is pleasing to my vanity
when I score forty eight.

rice makes the world go round

coming out of a 3 day fast or so (always done for the experience, not solely because of poverty - although that entered into it), rice is the best food.

If it's available a little chopped parsley with that rice, and it's a feast.
Let them eat rice
Let them get rice without side effects (like HIV and compulsory body barter)
Let the rice cakes get room on the podium. One day, yes one day.

One day, yes one day
Yes, soon
Next year maybe.
I got to believe
Next year in Jerusalem,
New York, Paris, Moscow, Beirut, Tehran, Peking, Lahore, Kinshasa, Mogadishu, Mule Shoe Texas and
all over this world
If I had a hammer

These are my autumn wind days. I have fallen from the tree like a dead leaf and I scuttle towards the compost heap. Something to anchor me for awhile

Thanks again sister j
That little game all the practice I got going these days
Unless you count this compulsive scribbling of mine

There is still enough rice to feed everyone of us every day.
Rice growing all over this land
For crying out loud they are even growing it in the semi arid land, no high tech Israeli irrigation system. Just sloshing water all over the place, it streams across the roads when they are irrigating.

After we manage to get every one of us a hearty breakfast every day we can move on to the problem of finding a cheap substitute for water.

Where is Sam Kinison when we need him?
Sam Kinison used to have a skit about a camera man filming starving children in Ethiopia urging viewers to send money to help the starving children. Kinison would then say something to the effect of “WHY DON’T YOU HELP, CAMARA MAN---Put Down The Camera And Give The Kid A Sandwich. Or--Move Them To Where The Food Is.”

I never knew that a bassinet is a medieval helmet. Lucky guess on that one.

There are worse fates for an autumn leaf than a compost pile.
Serious gardeners love their compost heaps.

It is a pecan autumn here
They are falling like manna from heaven.
In the fall a old man's fancy turns to thoughts of pecan pies.
