Drink Like a hobo
Drink Like a drunk
Drink Like a breeder
Drink Like a tourist
Drink Like a british person
Drink Like a lesbian
Drink Like a successful person
Drink Like a stereotype

Why not just to slow down?

Q: Is alcohol a gateway?

A: Yes. But don't hang around the gate.

Seriously.. people drink just to slow down...

We have a fairly generous life-span among the creatures,
yet 70+ years or so doesn't quite seem to get it done,
given the constant intrusion of making a buck,
or those who are smarter and know better.

al-ko-haul is a de-press-ant-- slows me,
even while awake!-- it must have been a miracle!
And all this while the world never stopped.
And it's legal.
And stuff.

Many writers associated with Butcher Block Inc. advanced the cause of liquor distributors, eh. Didnt Buk sort of stop with the hooch once his hustle paid off (Barfly etc.) and he moved westside... he started with the cabernet-merlot crowd, ah heard...............on the other hand Hank Thoreau preferred spring water to wine or liquor.

Preferred spring water?

Q: Did Hank Thoreau ever drink any hooch in his cabin?

A: Good question, you literary heretic! But is that really the point?

Who would want to look like a writer?

Whatever. We here at Totenkopf are no moralists or puritan do-gooders, but booze in and of itself won't do it. Just win bay-be!

Buk was no genius, but lucky, way lucky, and a fighter. Reading some of his prose-y memoirs one gets the sense he made a living barely escaping death and ...the LA street.

most great writers barely made a living, tote

whitman (who I know you have little respect for) sold his books off a vegetable cart. I think he is our greatest American poet.

Poe wasn't a financial genius either, and he drank.

Good writing and fiscal acumen don't necessarily go together.

Breakfast of Champions entertained me, sort of, though I think Vonnegut was a trifle narcissistic: i agree KV reveals that midamerican splashy absurdity pretty effectively ( I thought it was a parody of Updike sort of). Cat's Cradle was alright--but not sure what the connection wuz with Miss Westie's post. Was V a drunk? I don't think so. He hung with scientifico sorts.

I doubt Buk-baby was into that hippie jass of V--he was into like LF Celine. Celine's no leftist. Pure nihilistic energy, really................
