The Book

Post by the mingo » June 29th, 2008, 10:43 am

you lie in your pond ,love
deep in the woods
reading your book
i sit on your strange shore
making amphibious sounds with my lips
then I close my eyes
you begin to laugh
I say "What?" without opening my eyes
you answer "You should read this book,
there's some really funny shit going on."
Doll, you may have found a place of rest but I'm still on the trail.

hi mingo,

just want you to know i'm not a beeotch. i really enjoy "The Book"; it is inspired and that is why i was taken by surprise at the final line.

don't get me wrong, i'm a modern woman and artiste...

it is just that i felt the poem was of a higher order than using the word "shit" -- but that is hip linga franca -- so, i beg your forgiveness/understanding if i have offended you as a poet. that was not my intention.

best,
janet

hey westie...no offense taken...the last line led to the piece actually & I wrote that line exactly as it was spoken to me...I usually don't mess with something that comes up to notice like that...let me ricochet off the wall here & say when you come upon a burning but unconsumed bush the best thing ya can do for yourself & your reader is remove your sandals & just listen...you treated me well by saying what you thought...thats real courtesy & respect in my book any day...
